Alvar Aalto Padded Cantilever Armchair Model 43, Artek 1940s

An early padded Spring chair model 43 designed by Alvar Aalto for Artek and manufactured by Huonekalu- ja Rakennustyömaa from the 1940s. This chair is one of the most recognizable pieces by Aalto along with the Paimio and the stool 60. It is the padded version of the Spring chair made from bent veneer. The chair is light and can easily be moved, often used as a side or reading chairs in living rooms or bedrooms.

The chair is in its absolute original condition with the original upholstery. A museum / collector’s piece. Of course the chair can be restored and reupholstered upon request and at an affordable rate.

Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) is a world famous architect and designer. He was well known for designing his own line of furniture and lighting for the numerous buildings that he designed worldwide. The entry for him on the Museum of Modern Art website notes his “remarkable synthesis of romantic and pragmatic ideas”. Aalto is also one of the founders of the global design furniture company “Artek”.
