Charming Mid-Century Modern Step Stool in White Painted Metal, Finland 1950s

1176,00

A vintage Finnish step stool from the 1950s–60s, originally used in the Herttoniemi Library in Helsinki and carries the city stamp to the bottom. Made of iron with a circular wooden top, this practical design speaks to the unpretentious functionality of mid-century Finnish public interiors. The stool features a tall T-shaped handle that allows it to be lifted and moved with ease, a thoughtful detail typical of institutional furniture of the era. The stool retains its original white paint, worn and patinated from decades of use. The surface shows attractive chipping, marks and discolouration, all of which bring out its industrial charm and character. The piece has a quiet sculptural quality and works beautifully as a small side table, plant stand, bedside accent, display pedestal, or just as intended to reach for higher books or items in upper cabinets. A rare example of everyday Finnish design with authentic history and lived texture. If you are looking for a “pair”, we currently have another one available in blue.
