A collector’s gem! Early Alvar Aalto hand carved wooden mould for the iconic vase no. 3032 which Aalto designed in the 1930s.
The mould is hand carved from an older tree stump and has the original handles. The mould still retains the charred interrior from the burning hot glass making process. The mould is not only a piece for collectors, as it is a beautiful object and can be proudly displayed in any interior, which is the reason we listed it under sculptural pieces.
Also, as this is a unique piece and a part of the Finnish art glass history and Finnish heritage, it will need an export permit so the shipping process might take a bit longer than usual(about 2 extra weeks).
It has wear due to age and use for producing the glass vases. Also cracks due to dryness and rusting metal parts. The mould is however in it’s vintage original condition and should be kept as such.
Alvar Aalto (1898-1976) is a world famous architect and designer. He was well known for designing his own line of furniture and lighting for the numerous buildings that he designed worldwide. The entry for him on the Museum of Modern Art website notes his “remarkable synthesis of romantic and pragmatic ideas”. Aalto is also one of the founders of the global design furniture company “Artek”.
