A striking curved sofa of generous proportions, often referred to as a banana-shaped sofa, manufactured in Finland during the 1940s and most likely by Boman Oy under the direction of Carl-Johan Boman. The elegant sweeping form is complemented by its sculptural silhouette, making it an eye-catching centerpiece from every angle. Its organic shape reflects the softer, more refined direction of Nordic design during the period, offering both comfort and visual presence.
The sofa retains an older floral upholstery, believed to date from the 1990s. While it has served the piece well, the upholstery is now showing its age and no longer meets modern standards. For this reason, we recommend a complete reupholstery and restoration. We are able to provide this service in-house and can offer a wide selection of fabrics, including sheepskin, wool, linen, or other materials according to the buyer’s preferences.
The frame itself remains structurally sound and in good condition considering its age, a testament to the quality of construction and craftsmanship for which Boman became renowned. Once restored, this sofa would make a remarkable addition to both modern and traditional interiors, serving as a distinctive focal point in a living room, lounge, hotel setting, or reception area.
We currently also have a matching pair of armchairs from the same suite available separately.
