Lisa Johansson-Pape, Floor Lamp Model 2063, Brass, Leather, & Rattan, Orno 1950s

A rare Finnish Mid-Century Modern floor lamp, model 2063, designed by Lisa Johansson-Papé and manufactured by Orno in the 1950s. The lamp features an elegant bent brass stem wrapped in natural leather, rising from a circular brass base and culminating in an adjustable shade. The original metal reflector has been professionally re-covered with handwoven reed on its original frame, lending the piece a warm, organic character while preserving its authentic form.

The design perfectly encapsulates Johansson-Papé’s philosophy of functional elegance. The graceful curve of the brass arm creates a light, sculptural silhouette, while the adjustable shade allows the light to be directed where needed, making it equally suitable as a reading lamp or atmospheric accent. The combination of brass, leather, and natural reed creates a beautiful dialogue between refined craftsmanship and organic materials, allowing the lamp to complement interiors ranging from Scandinavian Modern to contemporary and organic spaces.

Lisa Johansson-Papé (1907–1989) is regarded as one of Finland’s foremost lighting designers. After initially designing furniture for Stockmann, she devoted her career to lighting at Orno Oy, where she developed many of the company’s most celebrated models. Her work was driven by the belief that the function and quality of light should always take precedence, with aesthetics naturally following. This thoughtful approach earned her international recognition, including several medals at the Milan Triennale during the 1950s.

The lamp remains in very good vintage condition with an attractive patina to the brass and leather consistent with age and use. The reed covering has been renewed on the original shade frame, respecting the original proportions and design while ensuring many more years of enjoyment.
