A rare Lisa Johansson-Papé table lamp model 46-186. The lamp consists of a wooden base covered in dark brown leather with a brass shaft attached on the top. This particular example is fitted with a wooden slat shade that is of a later date, which gives the lamp a warmer look and more character as the light filters softly through the wooden elements.
In this model many different shades can be used, and the wooden shade introduces a beautiful dialogue between the natural materials of the lamp itself. A visible harmony between materials is one of the distinctive qualities of this design. The combination of leather, brass, and wood creates a balanced and timeless composition, characteristic of Lisa Johansson-Pape’s functional yet refined approach to lighting design. The stem has a beautiful vintage patina that is harmonious with age and use.
Lisa Johansson-Papé (1907–1989) was a Finnish designer best known for her lighting designs. She approached lamp design primarily through function, allowing form to follow the needs of the light itself. After designing furniture for Stockmann for a number of years, she turned her attention to lighting, working with the Stockmann-owned company Orno Oy. Her lamps received international recognition, including several medals at the Milan Triennials during the 1950s
