Beautiful Mid-century ceiling pendant model 51143 manufactured by Idman, the leading lamp manufacturer in Finland in the 1950s. The lamp features 5 brass arms for light topped with rattan / wood slatted shades branching from a central brass disc decorated with a gorgeous brass wire decoration. The central rod is also decorated with leaf and blossom elements bringing an organic and earthy touch to the whole fixture. A true beauty.
The lamp is stamped Idman and is in good original condition. The shades are of a latter date. The lamp appears in the 1954 Idman catalogue which was just after Idman acquired Taito and it is difficult to say who the designer is as it is not marked. The lamp certainly has Paavo Tynell features, but could also be by Mauri Almari or Maria Lindemann. On all accounts, a beautiful example reflecting the spirit of Finnish modernism coupled with the modern organic style prevailing at the period.
