A very rare and elegant table lamp, model K11-81 B, designed by Tapio Wirkkala for Idman. Exceptionally difficult to find, this sculptural lamp would make an important addition to any collection of Finnish modern design.
The design exemplifies Wirkkala’s exceptional understanding of geometry, proportion and material, expressed with remarkable clarity and minimal means. Its refined form gives the lamp a quietly striking presence that integrates beautifully into both modern and eclectic interiors.
The lamp retains its original “Tapio Wirkkala Design” label and is stamped by Idman underneath.
At the moment we also have another table lamp model K11-81 with the brass mesh. See last photo
Few designers have demonstrated the extraordinary range and versatility of Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985). Inspired by nature and guided by an exceptional understanding of geometry, proportion and craftsmanship, his work helped shape Finnish design in everyday life.
Wirkkala designed an astonishing variety of objects, ranging from banknotes, jewellery, cutlery, tools, furniture and graphic identities to highly expressive works of art. Equally accomplished in glass, ceramics, wood, metal, plastic, textiles and stone, he was both a versatile designer and a gifted sculptor. His remarkable ability to master almost any material has deservedly earned him a reputation as the Leonardo da Vinci of Finnish design.
