A minimalist flushmount with a metal base and a white opaline glass shade designed by Gunilla Jung and manufactured by Orno Oy in Finland in the 1950s. The lamp is in it’s full original condition and stamped Orno and also (patent pending) which seems to refer to the leaver system used to attach and release the glass shade as it is not the usual one on Orno lamps. Perfect for low ceiling and small spaces, also for hallways, kitchens, toilets, and offices.
Gunilla Jung 1905-1939 was a celebrated Finnish designer renowned for her elegant and functional lighting creations. With a keen eye for Scandinavian design principles—simplicity, minimalism, and natural materials—Jung has crafted timeless lamps that blend seamlessly into modern interiors. Her work often features clean lines, organic shapes, and a harmonious balance between form and function. Before her untimely death, she was, and is still considered, one of the path makers for Finnish modern design and its evolution towards functionalism and modern minimalist styles.
Jung was the main light designer at Orno from 1936 until the time of her death in 1939. It was because of this untimely and unfortunate incident that Orno took in Lisa Johansson-Papé who started her career by working on Jung’s designs which continued throughout Orno’s history.
