Minimalist Modern Art Glass Lamp, Kerlux – Nuutajärvi, Finland, 1990s

1740,00

A rare art glass table lamp attributed to Oiva Toikka, one of Finland’s most celebrated art glass designers. The body is mould-blown art glass, labelled Nuutajärvi Notsjö, paired with an aluminium neck and a later fabric shade that suits the piece exceptionally well. The form of the lamp is a documented Toikka design, originally produced in colourful glass for Kerlux; the clear glass version is far less common, strengthening the attribution. Generous in scale and quietly sculptural, it is a minimalist piece that blends effortlessly into a variety of interiors. The lamp carries both the Nuutajärvi and Kerlux labels on the base.

Oiva Toikka (1931–2019) was a renowned Finnish glass designer and ceramist who worked for Arabia and Nuutajärvi Glassworks. He created some of the most recognisable objects in Finnish design history and became especially known for his imaginative series of glass birds. His work is vibrant, colourful and playful, reflecting a uniquely expressive vision. Over his long career he received the Pro Finlandia Medal, the Kaj Franck Design Prize and the Prince Eugen Medal. His pieces are held in major museums and private collections around the world.
