Beautiful Mid-century floor lamp model 62044 (aka Cobra) designed by Gunnel Nyman and manufactured by Idman. The lamp is made in full brass with a rattan handle.
This particular model is very rare and is often mistaken when referred to as a Tynell due to very little documentation and similarity in the design. The lamp has a beautiful curve resembling an attacking cobra. The reflector is adjustable and has the original paint on the inside; a silver like paint used in the 1940s. The brass has been polished as it had a very strong patina.
Gunnel Nyman (1909 – 1948) was a Finnish glass, furniture and metal artist, and one of the founders of modern Finnish glass design. She was also one of the biggest names in the Finnish modern design movement of the early 20th century. Unfortunately, due to her premature death at 39, and eventhough she managed to design numerous beautiful objects, she also left us with a sense of owe and wonder to what she could’ve designed with a longer career.
