A striking modernist ceiling lamp designed by Klaus Michalik and manufactured by Orno in the 1980s. Crafted from brass and opaline (milk) glass, this four-arm chandelier features a bold cubic composition, with balanced up- and down-facing half-globe shades that create a refined, architectural presence.
Measuring 60 cm in height with a width and depth of 80 x 80 cm (100 cm diagonally), this is a substantial and sculptural piece. Its scale and weight give it a commanding presence, making it an ideal focal point in both residential and commercial interiors.
This example is model 950-507, part of a wider series produced in varying configurations, including this four-arm (eight-light) and three-arm (six-light) versions, as well as coordinating wall fixtures. Please view our other listings on 1stDibs for additional models from this collection. They came from a restaurant in Eastern Finland.
The lamp remains in good condition, with updated electrical wiring. Currently fitted for 220V with an adapter; it may require adjustment for use in the United States.
Like Lisa Johansson-Papé, Klaus Michalik began his career at Orno following work as a furniture designer for Stockmann / Keravan Puusepäntehdas. He is particularly recognized for this “Bau” series, which draws clear inspiration from Bauhaus principles—emphasizing clarity, proportion, and functional elegance—qualities that are distinctly expressed in this design.
Founded in Finland, Orno was among the leading lighting manufacturers of the mid-20th century, alongside firms such as Taito Oy, Idman, and Itsu. The company is known for its high-quality craftsmanship and its role in shaping the identity of Finnish modern lighting, producing fixtures for both private interiors and major architectural projects.
