Heikki Turunen (1937-) was a Finnish lighting designer who began his career at Stockmann-Orno’s design office, as an assistant to head designer Lisa Johansson-Pape. Soon, he had the opportunity to create his own lighting designs, leading to a 38-year tenure as the chief designer at Stockmann-Orno and work at Thorn Lighting Oy, where he focused on product development and visual branding. His designs, known for harmoniously combining light, color, and form while considering technical lighting aspects, include notable models like Reflex, Efekti, and the iconic La Boheme table lamp. Turunen’s contributions have significantly impacted Finnish design, inspiring new generations of designers with his innovative solutions. His work gained international recognition in 1993 when his Avanti lamp was selected for the Élysée Palace, marking a significant acknowledgment of Finnish design and the quality of Turunen’s work.
