Pair of Tapio Wirkkala Bronze Candle Holders TW 486, Kultakeskus Oy

A beautiful pair of bronze candle holders designed by Tapio Wirkkala in the 1970s for Kultakeskus Hämeenlinna in Finland. The proportions are very intentional, and typical of Wirkkala’s delicate balance of rhythm in design. Displayed together, they form a striking architectural pair.

The bronze has developed a gorgeous and rich natural patina over the years, and the pieces remain in beautiful original condition. Each candle holder is stamped on the underside.

Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985) is one of the most internationally recognized Finnish designers and an iconic figure within 20th century design. His career was marked by numerous Triennale awards, gold medals and international honours. He worked across an unusually wide range of materials – from glass, wood and plywood to bronze, silver, and ceramics – always exploring form, tactility, light and the essence of the material itself. These candle holders clearly represent this approach: refined, poetic, and quietly powerful.
