A beautiful art glass vase “Miracus”, model 3433, designed by Tapio Wirkkala and manufactured by Iittala in Finland in the 1970s. The vase is mouth blown into an engraved wooden mold, which creates its stunning organic structure resembling melting ice — a theme Wirkkala explored extensively in his work inspired by nature. Signed Tapio Wirkkala – Iittala with the model number.
Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985) is regarded as one of Finland’s most important designers and sculptors of the 20th century. Recognized as a central figure in the post-war “golden era” of Finnish design, his mastery of form, geometry and natural materials often led to comparisons with Da Vinci. He worked with glass, plywood, wood, silver, ceramics and more, always pushing the limits of each material. Wirkkala received numerous Triennale awards and international distinctions throughout his career, and today his works are highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
