A rare pair of sizable wall lamps by Finnish designer Mauri Almari, model 71011, in full brass with mouth-blown champagne glass shades. Manufactured by Idman in the 1950s, this model is from the same series that included the 51101 ceiling lamp with the same shape shades and arms.
The form is sculptural and delicate. The brass body and tulip-like shade have a poetic quality that lends more importance to the glass and light as being a major part of the sculptural whole. The pair truly comes from the golden era of Finnish material romanticism with refined, warm metal craft meeting poetic natural forms in glass.
Perfect for ambience and soft atmospheric lighting. Ideal for entrances, framing important wall artworks, living spaces.
The lamps are in their absolute original condition with even the brush strokes of the laqeur confirms the story of their originality. Both lamps are stamped Idman. The lamps are in working and ready for use. In case you prefer these to be polished, we can offer the service at a reasonable price.
Mauri Almari (1907–1973) was a prominent Finnish lighting designer at Idman, working alongside Paavo Tynell, Gunnel Nyman and Maria Lindeman. After the acquisition of Taito, he — together with Lindeman — became the main lead for the design output of the factory, resulting in numerous important lamp models and an unmistakable visual identity within Finnish mid-century lighting design.
