One of the most iconic lamps by Alvar Aalto, this impressive “Angel Wing” lamp was designed by Aalto in 1954 for the National Pensions Institute in Helsinki. The large asymmetrical wingshape shade is formed from painted metal strips. The brass stem has a black leather hand woven wrap that also covers the foot of the stem and gives a beautiful contrast in material and colour to the shade. This particular lamp is an early version by Valaistustyö and stamped on the stem. The shade retains the original paint, the stem the original leather, and the brass parts the original lacquer. A really beautiful piece of design.
