One of Alvar Aalto’s most iconic lighting designs, introduced in 1953. The pendant draws inspiration from nature, resembling a hanging beehive suspended from a tree branch. The design possesses an extraordinary lightness, almost appearing weightless in space.
More than seventy years after its introduction, the lamp remains strikingly contemporary. Its sculptural form and indirect light give it a timeless quality that feels as relevant today as it did when first conceived, making it equally at home in modern, classic, and future-oriented interiors.
This example is presented in beautiful original condition, retaining its original black finish. The paint has aged gracefully, while the brass rings remain unpolished, preserving the character and authenticity of the piece. The lamp is stamped with the manufacturer’s mark, Valaistustyö, as well as the model number.
Alvar Aalto (1898–1976) was one of the most influential figures in modern design and architecture. Renowned for his humanistic approach to modernism, he created buildings, furniture, lighting, and glassware that combined functionality with organic forms inspired by nature. His work helped define Scandinavian Modernism and continues to be celebrated in museums, collections, and interiors around the world.
