A beautiful and atmospheric table lamp from the early 1900s, possibly of German origin, combining Art Nouveau decorative details with the strong geometry of Arts and Crafts design. The broad, faceted shade rests above a slender column and shaped polygonal base, creating an elegant architectural silhouette.
The metalwork of brass with a dark patinated finish, features flowing relief decoration around the base and suspended floral garlands beneath the shade. Open rectangular ornaments provide a geometric counterpoint to the curved botanical details, giving the lamp a distinctive and carefully balanced character.
Amber-toned, parchment-paper line the sides of the shade, producing a rich, warm glow when illuminated. Their softly varied texture contrasts beautifully with the dark metal frame. An unusual and appealing feature is the rotary switch, operated by turning the knob at the top of the shade.
A striking accent for a writing desk, side table, or library, this lamp offers both decorative presence and inviting ambient light. It remains in good antique condition, with surface wear and patina consistent with age and use. The electrical wiring has been replaced.
