Birger Kaipiainen Fiori & Rose Numbered Decorative Dishes, Arabia 1980s

2780,00

A pair of decorative ceramic plates by the master of Finnish mid-century design, Birger Kaipiainen. Each plate showcases the artist’s iconic and lavish style, featuring a rich floral motif elegantly adorned with his signature three-dimensional beads, a decorative technique he pioneered in the 1960s.

These plates are from the esteemed Arabia Art Department’s numbered series, produced in a 2000 pcs limited edition, as indicated by their markings. Both pieces are fully stamped and numbered. They remain in good condition and are ready for display, complete with their original wall-mounting wires intact.

Birger Kaipiainen (1915-1988) enjoyed a long and celebrated career at the Arabia factory, where he was given extraordinary artistic freedom. He is revered for his exceptionally ornamental work, which often depicted lush, romantic subjects like fruits, flowers, birds, and butterflies. Over time, his style evolved into a more surreal and expressive form. Kaipiainen is widely considered a leading figure in 20th-century Finnish ceramics, and his accolades include the prestigious Grand Prix award from the 1951 Milano Triennale. He remains one of Finland’s most beloved and collected designers.
