An elegant chandelier by Hans-Agne Jakobsson, exemplifying his iconic design sensibility. This distinctive piece features a sculptural brass structure from which six detachable brown glass shades are suspended. The design is both eye-catching and harmonious, creating a striking centerpiece for an interior. The fixture carries multiple original labels, including the manufacturer’s mark, Hans-Agne Design, “Made in Sweden,” and a specification for a maximum of 6x40w.
The chandelier is in good condition, showing only minimal wear consistent with its age and use. The beautiful contrast between the warm, dark glass and the luminous brass finish lends a soft, romantic ambiance to any setting, promising a warm and diffused light.
Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was a Swedish interior architect and furniture designer, best known for his elegant mid-century lighting. Born in Havdhem, Gotland, he trained as a cabinetmaker at 18 before studying architecture in Gothenburg. After working with design luminaries like Carl Malmsten, Jakobsson founded his eponymous lighting company in Markaryd, Småland, in 1951.
His workshop became renowned for its meticulously crafted brass and glass fixtures, celebrated for their warm, diffused light and thoughtful details. Jakobsson believed every component, from the shade’s glow to the ceiling cup’s form, deserved a designer’s attention. His timeless pieces, often featuring handblown Småland glass, embody Scandinavian modernism at its most functional and poetic.
