Rare modernist brass ceiling light by Paavo Tynell with three hanging perforated shades. Each shade is crafted in full brass and connected at the top by a brass canopy and a radiating bridge arm that extends softly to both sides. The perforation adds a decorative, warm glow, giving the lamp a quiet elegance. It works beautifully above dining tables and kitchen counters, in elongated hallways or living rooms, and in public interiors such as restaurants, bars, offices, and hotel lounges. The patina on this example is especially beautiful.
Paavo Tynell (1890–1973) was one of Finland’s most influential lighting designers, known for his refined craftsmanship and innovative use of metalwork. Beginning his career as a sheet-metal apprentice, he later co-founded Taito Oy, the company through which many of his iconic works were produced. Tynell designed for both private and public interiors, with his lighting featured in a wide range of Finnish institutions and later exported to the United States through Finland House in New York. His work remains highly sought after for its timeless character and exceptional quality.
