Paavo Tynell Perforated Brass and Leather Floor Lamp Model 9608, Taito 1950s

110400,00 €

A beautiful and rare model 9608 floor lamp by Paavo Tynell for Taito, designed in the mid-1940s. Affectionately nicknamed “löylykauha,” Finnish for “sauna ladle,” the model takes its name from its resemblance to the long-handled ladle used to pour water over hot sauna stones.
The elegant design features a slender brass stem that curves gently behind a domed shade, balanced by a flared, trumpet-shaped foot and circular base. Delicate perforations scatter points of light across the shade when illuminated, while the leather-wrapped grip introduces a warm, tactile contrast to the brass. These thoughtful details give the lamp a distinctive character, combining sculptural simplicity with Tynell’s decorative sensitivity.

Its compact proportions make it particularly well suited beside an armchair or sofa, or as an atmospheric accent in a bedroom or reading corner. The lamp remains in beautiful original vintage condition, with an attractive patina and wear consistent with age and use. It bears the Taito maker’s stamp and model number and retains the original yellow wiring associated with Taito’s production.

Paavo Tynell (1890–1973) was one of Finland’s most celebrated lighting designers and a co-founder of Taito Oy in 1918. Renowned for his mastery of brass, delicate perforations, and nature-inspired details, he achieved international recognition through both architectural commissions and his lighting presented at Finland House in New York.
