When you think you’ve seen every iconic Tynell design, this extraordinary pair of wall lamps emerges—showcasing the master’s unparalleled ability to blend nature, grandeur, and craftsmanship. Exceptionally rare and in beautiful original patina, these lamps feature exquisite perforated brass leaves and intricate spring decorations, with handblown amber glass shades. The workmanship is only topped by their impressive scale (over 70 cm wide each) making them true statement pieces.
Paavo Tynell frequently drew inspiration from botanical forms, transforming glass into blossoms and brasswork into delicate branches. While his signature brass mesh leaves are widely recognized, this pair boasts a rarer detail: perforated solid brass sheets, adding a luxurious weight and texture. The oversized scale further elevates their presence, ensuring they command attention in any space.
The harmonious pairing of warm amber glass and gleaming brass has long been a hallmark of Tynell’s work—and a perennial favorite among collectors. Even unlit, the sculptural shades radiate a golden glow, blurring the line between functional lighting and art. The glass shades, which are of a later date, are in good condition, complementing the lamps’ original brass structure. Acquired from a private residence near Helsinki, this model was commissioned by Taito Oy, as evidenced by archival drawings. A testament to Tynell’s legacy, these lamps embody the visionary artistry that cemented his status as Finland’s foremost lighting designer.
